TA have been ordered to never produce another episode of the Joel                                      Allen show due to a guest, known by the name Darren Berry,                                              committed suicide days after appearing on the show. Berry reached                                  out to the show in hope that he could prove to his girlfriend, Joanne      Greenhalgh, that he hadn’t cheated on her following accusations of him being unfaithful when on a night out with his friends. Proving Miss Greenhalgh’s accusations to allegedly be correct, the lie detector test came back saying that he had in fact cheated on his girlfriend. However, Darren Berry was still adamant that he had not cheated on her and said that he’s ‘not that type of guy’. Despite Berry’s efforts to redeem himself, Joanne broke up with him there and then due to his failure of the lie detector test.

Later that week, Mr Berry was found dead at a local                                                               park which is located around the corner from his two-                                                         bedroom flat. It has been rumoured that his death was                                                         the result of his failure to pass the lie detector test on                                                           the show as this led to his breakup with his ex-                                                                     girlfriend Joanne. However, it has also been brought to                                                         the attention of those dealing with the death that he                                                             had been treated for depression multiple times prior to                                                         his appearance on the show; so, some believe that this                                                         may have also contributed to him committing suicide.                                                         One of his family members, who wishes not to be named, said that ‘Darren sometimes went through really low patches in his life, and Joanne was always there to pick him back up again but this time she wasn’t. He must have felt so helpless and lost, I just can’t imagine the frame of mind he must have been in to do such a sad thing.’

Since Berry’s death, there have been thorough investigations that have taken place into the accuracy of these lie detector tests. All of these investigations have brought the team behind the Joel Allen show to the conclusion that this once ‘100% accurate’ lie detector test is actually less than 2% accurate. Therefore, telling us that this test that has been used on the show for over 5 years has actually been producing lies itself. This means that Mr Berry was right, along with the many other guests that have deemed that the test lacks any sort of accuracy, in accusing the show of having a completely faulty lie detector.

This has sparked a huge outburst of hate for the show from the public across social media and beyond. Some claim that they are furious with the fact that Joel Allen had the audacity to call his guests ‘filthy liars’ when they failed to pass this so-called lie detector test; however, little did anyone know at the time that it was actually his show’s test producing all of the lies.

BTA are now at a huge risk as they are drastically losing views due to his                          unwarranted catastrophe. Many regular viewers of the Joel Allen show                            now refuse to even give any revenue to the British Television                                              Association, despite their conscious decision to axe the show due to the                            trouble it has caused. One viewer in particualr, who asked not to be                                    named, said that she will 'never turn on that channel ever again. That                              poor man only wanted to prove himself as not guilty for cheating to his girlfriend and look what happened because of BTA and Joel Allen's lack of consideration and care for their show guests. Absolutely despicable, the channel should be axed full stop, not just the Joel Allen show."

After remaining relatively silent on the topic Joel Allen eventually paid his apologies and due respects to the public and in particular Darren Berry and his family at this difficult time.

In an interview with the BBC Allen said “I am so deeply sorry to hear about what happened to Darren, he seemed like a great chap and it was just unlucky that it happened to him. I was always told by our producers that the lie detector test was as accurate as you could get- it never crossed my mind that what results we got from the test didn’t reflect the real story. I also want to apologise to any guests that have appeared on my show, whether it be last week or 3 years ago, I am truly sorry for the way I acted on the show. It is now clear to me that the way I portrayed myself was not right and I definitely treated the guests with a lack of respect and courtesy, at the end of the day they’re human too and we never know what is going on behind closed doors for them. So, I am taking a lesson or two from this, it has opened my eyes and allowed me to consciously think more about how other people are feeling, not just myself. And particularly how what I say can have a massive impact on the way someone else feels, even if they may not show it there and then in the moment. So once again, I am deeply sorry.”

However, the British Television Society have also been contacted for comments on the incident, but nothing has yet been received in return with regards to further information regarding Darren Berry.
